A spin across the tablelands exploring back roads and some little visited places - from the forgotten town of Morrisons, then up and across to Lal Lal, and across to Buninyong, via Mount Buninyong. Landscapes, spectacular views, and history. What's in Lal Lal? - the old station, nearby Lal Lal falls, and the hotel where we'll probably have lunch. This is a pleasant cruise suitable for all sized Vespa - and all riders. New members - a great ride for you too. Lal Lal was a family drive when I was a kid - even Fred Williams was inspired.

The plotaroute: Oh, we'll cut up through the Brisbane Ranges (a bit 5km of recently graded gravel) and then across to Morrisons and Elaine. We'll refuel at Elaine courtesy of the Club, and then along to one of David's hidden bridges. Finally to Lal Lal, and up to the Falls. Lunch will be at the pub. On the way home we'll do a shoot from the top of Mt Buningyong, and then back through the Ballark moonscape.

Melb departure Point leaving 9.30 am.
Caltex Service Station, Cnr Little Boundary and Pipe Roads, Laverton North VIC 3026. This is our new western meet spot - a 24 hour Service Station with food and coffee available on site. It's a very quick get away from the city too. MAP > Caltex meeting point

Wow Greg, this looks like a great ride jam-packed with things to see. I would love to could come but a visitor has just landed on our door step over the weekend without notice. Maybe I can persuade him to look after Roxy while I go riding. This maybe of interest to you. There is a place out west that I have been trying to find an excuse to visit for a number of years not too far from your route. It’s Cobbledicks Ford, an old bluestone ford that crosses the Werribee River. Close by there are ruins of a stone farmhouse built in the 1860s by Samuel Cobbledick. The ford can be accessed from Greigs Road via Mount Cottrell and Duklows Roads (a good dirt road) to Cobbledicks Ford Road with a return to Melbourne via Doherty’s Road. Fingers crossed that I can make this ride.

    I'll meet you in Elaine.

Can I book 2 for lunch? My wife (Sandy) would like to drive down to the pub to meet some of these Vespa people that I talk about. ;-)
