Back to Cambodia - Club charity work

On Tuesday Julie and I will return to Cambodia where we will visit our charity project in Kompong Speu province. We have been supporting the development of a community health, welfare, and education centre from it's inception.

It's run by a local NGO the Khmer Association for Development KAD in association with the local Commune, and we have donated about $30,000 over the last 10 years. In 2015 we raised $11,000 for the purchase of motorcycles for use by the staff at the centre for community out reach work.

This year we will be presenting AU$3000 in cash (no middlemen, no fees) which represents 100% of what we have raised this year.

This came from:

Round the Bay 2017                                                 $1,200

Bike hire for window display / photography                 $1000

Generous donations by individual members                 $ 520

including Mark Hayes, John Borg

Thank you everybody who made this happen. I feel incredibly proud and humble when I visit the Centre and make some difference to the local community on your behalf.

The history of the Club's association is documented in this thread:

You can visit the KAD English language website (it's a bit dated):

They do try and update an English language FB page.

The Centre is located in a rural community in Kompong Speu Province. It is a couple of hours south west of Phnom Penh, located west of the market town of Krong Chbar Mon.

They always welcome international visitors who make the effort to find them.

Wonderful to catch up with Chandeth, his team and the children again and so very proud to be able to hand over the full donation to go towards investing in plastic water tanks.  Also some of the very poorest kids receiving some new t-shirts donated by a friend of mine.
