Vale Robert Meurant

Vale Robert Meurant

Devastating news. It is with great sadness that we report that one of our members, Robert Meurant, has passed away. An avid cyclist, Robert suffered a heart attack while riding last weekend and then collided with another vehicle. He had been in ICU at the Alfred, and through his close friends had managed to communicate with the club, before requesting that his life support be switched off. He died at 3 PM today. Robert rode an immaculate green 1999 ET4 that he owned from new. He loved the club and was a regular attendee at Melbourne events. We will let you know about upcoming funeral arrangements.

We understand that this is distressing news for many of you. If you need any assistance, we ask you to reach out to the club, and also attend our breakfast meeting this coming Sunday in Carlton.

I attended Robert's funeral service yesterday.  It was a casual affair, being only 8 in attendance, but we all got to share our stories about this truly gentle soul. There will be a Memorial at a date to be advised.

If you would like to watch the service, this link is live until 25 Sept.

    Dear Members

I have been advised that finally Robert will be laid to rest now that his girl friend Ann has been given permission to proceed.  The funeral will be held on Monday 6 September, 2pm in Clifton Hill.  Due to Covid-19 restrictions however only 10 people can attend.  Greg and I hopefully will be included in the 10, representing the Club.

Robert's housemate Anne will hold a Memorial afternoon tea when restrictions allow this to happen, so if you would be interested in attending and paying your respects to Robert, please let me know via email at admin@vespaclubmelbourne.com.au

    Thank you.

    Julie
