The weather is looking good this time, so if you're at a loose end at the end of Easter...

A spin across the tablelands exploring back roads and some little visited places -through the Brisbane Ranges, the forgotten town of Morrisons, then up and across to Lal Lal, and across to Buninyong, via Mount Buninyong. On the way back we'll cut up to Ballan, and then home via Ironbark Rd and Bacchus Marsh. Landscapes, spectacular views, and old buildings and bridges. What's in Lal Lal? - the old station, and nearby Lal Lal falls, This is a pleasant cruise suitable for all sized Vespa - and all riders. New members - a great ride for you too. Lal Lal was a family drive when I was a kid - even Fred Williams was inspired.

The plotaroute: Oh, we'll cut up through the Brisbane Ranges (a bit 5km of recently graded gravel) and then across to Morrisons and Elaine. We'll see Elaine, and then along to one of David's hidden bridges. Finally to Lal Lal, and up to the Falls. Lunch will be a bakery stop in Buninyong. On the way home we'll do a shoot from the top of Mt Buningyong, stop to pick some sunflowers, and then back through Bacchus Marsh via the wonderful Ironbark Rd. You'll do 240 kms. Mainly 80 kph roads, but a couple of unavoidable 100 kph short stretches.

Melb departure Point leaving 9.30 am.
Caltex Service Station, Cnr Little Boundary and Pipe Roads, Laverton North VIC 3026. This is our western meet spot - a 24 hour Service Station with food and coffee available on site. It's a very quick get away from the city too. MAP > Caltex meeting point

    Update.

Good news. Reids Road through the Brisbane Ranges was graded last week (!! Thank You), and is now free of corrugation with a nice stable surface. So we will be riding through the Brisbane Ranges. That means there is 5 km of good gravel road on this ride.

Unfortunately, since the last ride was cancelled, the sunflower season has finished. We will however stop for a poke around the withered flowers, and there is corn to pick right next to it all. "Green acres is the place to be.. "

Lunch stop in Buninyong is definetely a half hour 'bakery stop'. You can also bring some packed lunch.

  • We are going to give Reid's Rd a miss.

It hasn't had a good rainy season and is really badly corrugated again. Can't lead people across that. A shame because it's a lovely road. It was graded two years ago and was a great ride.

We'll take an alternative route through Glenmore and up the big hill.

I was on Reids Rd this morning and they were doing roadworks.  It was literally just ploughed, looked like a farmer was about to plant his crop.

Hopefully they will have laid new gravel and rolled out flat by Monday ...

  • There are three on the ride, but one must attend to be enlightened.
